I just returned from the Jersey Shore where I spent time with my uncle and aunt. This visit was bittersweet—my uncle is closing the doors on my great-grandfather’s business after more than 80 years of making women’s house dresses. Three generations kept it alive, and now, at 78, my uncle is the last of the makers. It reminded me how much sales and manufacturing are in my blood, and how businesses must adapt to survive. This year marks 13 years of Off the Shelf Reps, and I carry forward that same spirit of continuity, service, and resilience in my own business.
I’ll admit, I even seriously considered continuing the family tradition—sourcing updated house dresses myself. I have the infrastructure to do it! But after some thought, I realized I am exactly where I’m supposed to be, and I’m grateful for the work we do together.
At Off the Shelf Reps, we’re always evolving too. Right now, we’re working with buyers to update them on certifications that matter to retailers and their customers, running a Fall Challenge to encourage our reps to open new accounts and add new brands, and making sure your priorities as suppliers are shared directly with buyers. We’re also on the lookout for innovative products that fill real needs in stores. Together, we’re building on a legacy of adaptation—because while products and trends may change, values like hard work, trust, and strong partnerships never go out of style.
